Controlled Substance Policy
Controlled substance medications, such as narcotics, do have the potential for addiction, tolerance, and physical dependence. We prefer to monitor your condition closely while taking these medications.
In our practice we do not typically treat chronic pain with controlled substances (narcotics), however, we may choose to temporarily use them in treating your acute pain condition. If you have a chronic pain condition you may be referred to a pain specialist outside of our practice.
There are numerous State and Federal laws and regulations regarding the use of controlled substances. For this reason we will be unable to provide a renewal of your prescription before it is due. No allowance can be made for loss or theft of your prescription. No prescriptions can be filled evenings or weekends. We ask that you do not receive narcotic pain medication prescriptions from any other Physician while we are prescribing them to you. You may be asked to have a random blood or urine drug screen test. Your failure to meet these requirements may result in our practice’s inability to continue your controlled substance prescription.
