Alex Z Schumaker, MD
Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
Dr. Schumaker received his undergraduate degree at Albion
College and medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine. He
then completed his residency training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
at William Beaumont Hospital – Royal Oak. Following residency, he completed an
ACGME-accredited fellowship in Spinal Cord Injury Medicine at the University of
Michigan.
Dr. Schumaker has obtained advanced training in acute and chronic management of traumatic and non-traumatic spinal cord injuries along with associated conditions such as neurogenic bladder, neurogenic bowel, spasticity, and neuropathic pain.
He also specializes in general rehabilitation,
musculoskeletal medicine, and electrodiagnostic studies. He has strong
interests in medical education, community accessibility for all people, and
adaptive sports.
He is a member of the American Academy of Physical Medicine
and Rehabilitation, Academy of Spinal Cord Injury Professionals, American
Spinal Injury Association, and American Association of Neuromuscular and
Electrodiagnostic Medicine.
Dr. Schumaker is currently on staff at Corewell Health in Royal Oak and Troy.
