Your Visit:

Preparing for Your EMG Appointment

  • The EMG (electromyography) is performed in our office by one of our highly trained physicians and takes the same time as a regular office visit (approximately 20 minutes).
  • It is perfectly fine to eat, drink and take your regularly scheduled medications prior to your appointment as these will not interfere with the test.
  • Please refrain from wearing lotion on the day of your exam as this interferes with the conductivity of our electrodes that will be gently applied to your skin. 
  • The test is generally very well tolerated. You will be able to drive home and return to your normal activities immediately following the test.
  • On the day of your exam your referring physician will receive a preliminary report by fax with the final report mailed within 1-2 weeks.
